Stanley Thomas AndrewsApril 20, 1903 - October 27, 1953
Stanley Andrews was a musician of superb talent and a "rare spirit" in our midst. Even though more than 40 years have passed, his talent, charming personality, and gentle nature live on. He was born in Finchley, North London, and began violin lessons at age 5. He was an outstanding student, and won many awards and medals before the age of 20. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music, and during the First World War played concerts with his sister Dorothy, a pianist. In later years he became a well-known and respected arranger, conductor and performer with many British bands. He also composed complex and haunting violin pieces. He married at age 41, and has five children. He died in London at age 50 from lung cancer in the Autumn of 1953, and
was buried in St. Marylebone's Cemetery, East Finchley, London. His like
will never be seen again, a perfect gentle- man, musician and human being.
